Stamford gets New VC
The Hon’able President and Chancellor of the universities has appointed Professor Dr. M. Feroze Ahmed as Vice-Chancellor of Stamford University Bangladesh. Professor Ahmed graduated in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), obtained M.Sc.Engg. Degree with specialization in Environmental Engineering and then Ph.D. from University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK. He was a Professor and Dean of Civil Engineering Faculty, Head of Civil Engineering Department, Director of Planning and Development and Founder Director of International Training Network (ITN) Centre at BUET. He was also a Visiting Professor at University of Strathclyde, UK. Professor Ahmed worked as a member, then vice-Chairman and Chairman of Dhaka WASA Board, Chairman, Civil Engineering Division, BSTI and Convenor, Building Services, Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC).
Professor Ahmed has about 150 publications in his credit that include 3 papers in world famous “Science”. His publications have over 2000 citation in recently published technical papers as listed by Google Scholar. He has authored and edited 17 books and Proceedings held by 135 libraries worldwide. His books on ‘Water Supply and Sanitation’ is a text book in Bangladesh and some universities in European and African countries. He has also written chapters of several books and guidelines published by the world’s leading publishers, World Health Organization and The World Bank. He worked as an expert professional in many projects of national importance including construction of Bangabandhu Bridge and design of Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project.
He received BUET (Dr. Rashid Memorial) Gold Medal in recognition of excellence in teaching and research, IEB Medal by the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in recognition of services to the nation and engineering profession and Bangladesh Academy of Science (Dr. M.O. Ghani Memorial) Gold Medal for contribution to the progress of science and technology. He was first BUET Coordinator of BUET-MIT(USA) research Group, which received Prince Sultan Bin AbdulAziz Prize for Water. The American Chemical Society (ACS), has recognized him as a leading scientist in the field of arsenic research and published his works and views under the element “Arsenic” in a Periodic Table published by the Society.
He is a fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences and Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh and a member of American Society of Civil Engineers and many other national and International professional Societies.
